Dermatologic problems are one of the most common complaints with pet owners and can be caused by allergies, infection, parasites (fleas and mites) and sometimes even changes with your pet’s Thyroid level.
We can often diagnose your pet’s skin problem by doing a physical exam, but sometimes we do need to run other diagnostic tests such as:
- Ear cytology
- Skin cytology
- Fine needle aspirate
- Biopsy
- Skin scrape (determines the presence of mites)
- Bloodwork
Contact us if you notice your pet displaying any of the following problems:
- Excessive scratching, chewing or licking
- Hair loss/thinning of the hair
- Inflammation of this skin
- Scabbing or scaling
- Appearance of a hot spot
- Dirty/smelly ears
- Lumps
